auto tags and titles

When it comes to buying a new vehicle, there’s a lot of paperwork to be signed. Specifically, your auto loan and your vehicle’s registration, otherwise known as auto tags and titles. That’s why our team put together a guide on everything you need to know about auto tags and titles.

What is an Auto Registration?

All vehicle owners need to register their vehicle once they’ve made their purchase. That means paying any necessary taxes and fees to get registered with your state. Many vehicles will need to pass inspection before you can register and receive your license plate.

Once registered, you’ll need to renew your car registration every year or so, depending on your state. Be sure to do this immediately after your purchase, since it’s a requirement to legally drive your vehicle.

What is an Auto Title?

Essentially, a car title is a document that declares the legal, registered owner of a vehicle. So if you own a vehicle, you want the title to be under your name. The title indicates some information about the vehicle such as the owner, the VIN, the make, model, and the year.

Additionally, if a vehicle is “totaled” then the car title will reflect that loss; similarly, when a vehicle is sold the title must be transferred to the new owner.

Why Do I Need Auto Tags?

The only way to prove your yearly registration is to have auto tags. These are the small registration stickers that you will place on your license plate, whenever you renew your car registration. Ultimately, your car tags will demonstrate how long your registration is valid.
